Home Visits

If you are too ill to get to the Medical Centre, please try and call us 686968 before 10.30am. The receptionist will usually ask you about your illness to help the Doctors plan their rounds. The Doctor who calls may not be your usual doctor. Unless urgent, visits are usually in the middle of the day. Please do not ask for a home visit unless you really cannot get to the Surgery.

In the time it takes for a home visit, the Doctor could see several patients that come to him/her. Perhaps you would be able to discuss the problem with the Doctor on the telephone?

If you need help when we are closed

When the surgery is closed and you have a medical problem that isn't life threatening, but cannot wait until the surgery opens, call the surgery on 686968 and a recorded message will give you the number to call to speak to the doctor on duty at the Manx Emergency Doctor Service. You can also call MEDS directly on 650355.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

How do I get the most out of my appointment?

Doctors’ appointments are intended to cover one problem, or at the most, two. But quite a lot of people will go into the doctor with several problems at once – so then they over run.

Similarly, an appointment is designed for one patient. If you take someone else with you into your appointment, they should not use the opportunity to ask the doctor about their health problem too, otherwise again the appointment will over run, which affects the rest of the clinic.

The doctors here are very keen to let people have the time that their condition requires, but if people spend ages unnecessarily, or ‘save up’ issues until they’ve got a list of them, it is really unfair on both the doctor and the other patients in the waiting room – who may be feeling very poorly.

What is the answer? If you know in advance that you will need longer, or have several issues to discuss, please book a double appointment.
